List any adjectives or adverbs (words or phrases that modify a subject, object or verb). Identify your verb (What is the subject of the sentence doing?). Identify your subject (What is the sentence about?). The easiest way to start is to identify the parts of speech and the parts of the sentence. Even if you’ve never diagrammed a sentence before, you’ll find that the process is straightforward once you know what to do.
